EARLY DETECTION TRAINING FOR CAREGIVERS

Memory loss that disrupts everyday life, such as forgetting recently learned information to the point of asking for the same information over and over or relying on memory aides, is not a typical part of aging. It may be a sign of Alzheimer’s disease. Being diagnosed early is vital to receiving the best help and care possible.

The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association offers free caregiver trainings on the importance of early detection, the basics about Alzheimer’s disease and caregiving, and coping with challenging behaviors. The Sarasota March schedule includes:

• When Is It Time for Placement?, March 18, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Sr. Friendship Center, 2350 Scenic Dr., Venice; presenter: Pam Polowski

• Challenging Behaviors, March 19, 9:30-11:30 a.m., North Port Public Library, Tamiami Trail; presenter: Pam Polowski

• Early Detection/10 Warning Signs, March 25, 10 a.m., Palmer Ranch Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, 5111 Palmer Ranch Parkway; presenter: Pam Polowski. Note: brunch provided.
